I was quite surprised today to get an email from a member that is getting fined a good chunk of change for having done a pre-employment polygraph test. I had no idea that these tests are pretty much against the law under the Employee Polygraph Protection Act (EPPA). Like most members, in my company we did pretty extensive background checks but only did polygraph after there was an incident. And then the bank requested it. But I had no idea the tests were actually illegal unless you meet one of several narrowly defined (and 1988 language) businesses, like armored car cash delivery and design, installation & servicing of alarm security systems. It just seems like there is a liability hiding around every corner.
